I really appreciate the empathy you look to pull for all groups of people in this area. This is so rare in currently highly stigmatized/politicized issues, esp. sex work. This writing feels like it leads to the deeper question of what is that ‘delusion’, in other words what could make good natured humans get there to where they are willing to objectify other people? Was there common thread(s) you’ve noticed in people’s stories that seemed like it made them lean that way? Did that same thread lead them further down the spectrum? (Guessing this might be in the book)

On the part about people asking if you enjoy your work, I feel like that really could also vary between fields. Ie in real estate and startup culture that can happen very often, maybe relating to how interpersonal you’re expected to be with clientele (possibly to your point).

Actually, I don't think the answer to 'what is that delusion' is all that complex or unique to sex work. Why does anyone tell themselves a more pleasant version of reality than face hard facts? You know? This is what self-denial to avoid bad feelings looks like in the sex industry. Twisted versions of reality can permeate any area of someone's life if they are into creating alternative versions of events to make them more palatable. Reality isn't for everyone. It's not happiness 24/7, you aren't always the good guy, etc. Reality is for those who like nuance and are able to admit their capacity for evil, I suppose. Something like that, anyway.

D’accord on it being a non-unique issue to sex work. I’m not sure about it not being complex though, since we haven’t been good at finding ways out of it as a society (though it seems you personally did).

If I’m studying the spectrum of social delusion bc of objectification (from being gaslit up to terrorism), I could point to a similar root cause. And the ‘reality’ they are facing outside of that follows a similar spectrum, with lots of nuance ofc. Honestly psychology has had the least progress here, usually we just medicate or imprison (both sometimes are good).

Curious though as to why you think ‘reality’ is only for certain people?
